Sprint outlines LTE coverage plans at RCA Expo

Image
Sprint customer? Still supping from the 3G cup? Well if you were wondering if you'll ever get to try the sweet taste of LTE, wonder no more. The Now Network revealed a coverage map at the RCA Expo, and the image above was kindly grabbed by PC Mag's Sascha Segan. Those green areas are the locales that'll be getting LTE, and as you can see it's a fairly comprehensive -- though not altogether surprising -- spread. The rollout is said to be planned for completion by 2014, so you've still got time for that handset upgrade. Those of you in Montana or one of the many other blue areas on the map aren't entirely forgotten, though, as these regions will have roaming agreements in place, so no need for an extra contract just yet.

Computers And Technology: Shop For Insurance Responsibly by ...

Today?s advancements in computers and technology make many tasks easier than they were years ago. Computers and technology aid us in our personal lives as well as professional lives. Most young people probably can?t imagine a world without computers and technology, and most older people probably can?t imagine going back to that world. Thanks to computers and technology, we work online, we play online ? we do just about everything online!

A popular trend today is the act of purchasing insurance policies online. Health insurance, life insurance, automobile insurance ? you name an insurance, and it can probably be purchased online thanks to computers and technology. This is a great convenience for some folks. Think about it: who wants to make a detour on their commute home from a long day of work to talk with an insurance agent about purchasing an insurance policy? Wouldn?t most people rather go home to spend time with their families and relax before the next day begins?

While computers and technology make it much easier to spend more time enjoying these kinds of leisurely activities, they also make it much easier for us to lose connection with real people. By purchasing insurance online, you?re saving time and effort, but you?re also losing the important, yet overlooked, benefit of speaking with an insurance agent one-on-one, face-to-face. At the very most, the only human interaction you?re going to have by purchasing insurance online is speaking with a representative over the phone.

This isn?t to say that you should avoid the perks of today?s computers and technology, such as purchasing insurance online; however, you should make sure you have the chance to get some one-on-one time with an insurance agent ? even if that one-on-one time is only over the phone. Rather than the conversation consisting solely of a brief synopsis of the coverage and your credit card number, ask specific questions, and make sure to get thoroughly detailed answers.

Leveraging The Cloud For Disaster Recovery - Data Management ...

Using public cloud resources can provide remote facilities, staffing and resources for disaster recovery planning if you don?t have your own. It can make an IT organization more agile and flexible as they can add or remove resources and staff as needed, and typically pay only for what they use ? helping maximize budgets.

The cloud offers businesses and non-profit organization a way to convert capital expenditures (CAPEX) to operational expenditures (OPEX) and helps IT better manage budgets overall, as all expenses are known in advance. But there are a variety of questions and concerns including:

??Is transferring large volumes of data and databases over the wire for offsite storage even feasible?
??How long will it take to recover that data in the case of a local system or storage crash?
??What about data security across the wire?
??What about the security of your data once it?s stored at the cloud provider?s facility?

The cloud can enable a good archiving and disaster recovery resource. It can even be a failover location for high availability of your critical applications and data for business continuity, as long as there is careful planning and the right tools are used. It may provide an IT organization with more agility and flexibility in deploying its business continuity/disaster recovery (DR) strategy and resources, while helping to reduce costs by reducing the need to purchase, deploy, manage and maintain the associated hardware and software.

The cloud may also be the perfect solution for companies that don?t have their own remote DR site or data center.? You can use it for offsite backup and long-term data storage, as a secure offsite host for continuous data protection (CDP) and even for failover servers to achieve a high-availability environment. These and other issues are being addressed on World Backup Day.

I outlined different ways you can leverage the cloud for data protection and disaster recovery in a whitepaper?.? What do you think are the most important considerations and caveats? Please share your thoughts.

If you?re a Dr. Oz fan, you may have heard of the latest news in weight loss ? raspberry ketone. The supplement, according to a weight-loss expert on The Dr. Oz Show , will help your body ?think it?s thin? and burn body fat in as little as five days of taking the supplement daily. Raspberry ketone pills are derived from raspberries, which are known for having metabolism-boosting properties . According to Dr. Oz?s show, raspberry ketone pills contain the concentrated benefits of 90 pounds of raspberries, so just 100 mg a day of the supplement will supposedly help your body burn fat. So, does it work? Studies have found that it does (at least in mice!). One study found that mice fed a high-fat diet did not gain weight after regularly being given a dose of the supplement; another study found that raspberry ketone, in mice, increased the amount of adiponectin , a hormone that ?naturally tricks your body into acting like it?s thin,? according to Dr. Oz. In general, raspberry ketone pills are known to be safe , but of course finding the right, trustworthy brand is key (especially since dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA), and it?s important to note that no long-term studies have been done in humans. And while Dr. Oz touts the benefits of raspberry ketone, even he is quick to note that taking the supplement isn?t a substitute for diet and exercise, but rather a way to help ?get you over the hump? when starting a weight-loss routine. Are you buying the so-called benefits of raspberry ketone? Let us know if you?ve tried it and what you think in the comments! Source: Flickr User Muffet Have You Ever Taken Raspberry Ketone? Yes ? I?ll let you know what I think in the comments. No ? I?ve never heard of it/I don?t think it works.

LG BP620

LG's new Blu-ray player, the BP620, is an impressive device for its price. It retails for just $149.99 (list), but it features built-in Wi-Fi, plenty of online options, and 3D support. Combine that with fast loading speeds and it's our Editors' Choice for a midranged, affordable Blu-ray player.

Design
The front of the 1.6 by 16.9 by 7.8-inch (HWD), 4-pound BP620 is flat and black, distinguished only by a large 3D logo in the middle of it. The left half of the front flips down to reveal the disc tray, while the right half has an LED display hidden behind the glossy black finish. On the top edge of the right side of the player sit four buttons for pause/playback, power, eject, and stop. The right edge also houses a USB port behind a small, rubber door. The back of the player holds an HDMI output, optical audio and composite video outputs, and an Ethernet port.

The simple, well-designed remote measures 8.2 inches long and features large, flat rubber buttons. LG based the design around easy-to-find direction buttons, but there are also number, playback, and even TV-activating volume, channel, power, input, and mute buttons.

The BP620 offers a wide selection of streaming media services and both free and pay apps, accessible through the player's built-in Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. The Premium services are the most useful, and include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and several other streamed offerings. The LG apps are much less worthwhile, and include a middling selection of downloadable games and e-books. The vast majority of the time you spend online with the BP620 will involve the Premium services, and not the apps, which aren't particularly useful beyond as a novelty. Strangely, you can assign the LG apps to a quick launch bar in the main menu, but not the services. It's a strange and slightly irritating quirk we've seen in previous LG Blu-ray players.

Performance
We test Blu-ray players with both BD-Live and older, non-BD-Live discs, and the BP620 was impressively fast with both. With a non-BD-Live disc, Robocop 2, the BP620 took an average of 21.2 seconds from inserting the disc to first showing video (or, in this case, the disclaimer at the beginning of the disc). With a newer BD-Live disc, The Big Lebowski 10th Anniversary Edition, the player took an average of 32.9 seconds to load. Those results are roughly comparable to the much more expensive Oppo BDP-93 ($499.99, 4 stars) in speed, which takes an average just 14.7 seconds to load non-BD-Live discs and 37 seconds to load BD-Live discs.

We test Blu-ray players using the HQV Blu-ray test disc, and the BP620 passed them all. It handled both video (30 frames per second) and film (24 frames per second) capably, and there were few hiccups when dealing with motion. The BP620 stuttered slightly with horizontal motion, but every Blu-ray player we've seen except the high-end Oppo BDP-93 has shown jittery motion in the same test. The BP620 showed The Big Lebowski cleanly, with excellent motion tracking except for some slight jerkiness in the floating bowling pin in the "Gutterballs" scene, which is a stress test we use for precisely that issue.

At $150, the LG BP620 is an excellent Blu-ray player with features and performance that rival a player costing over $200. Its built-in Wi-Fi, 3D support, and wide selection of online services make it a great addition to any HDTV. Since we've yet to find a good enough Blu-ray player that breaks the $100 price barrier, the LG BP620 stands as our budget Editors' Choice, beating the last Editors' Choice, the Panasonic DMP-BDT110, with its faster performance and built-in Wi-Fi..

PC Runs Amuk; New NYC Test Policy Bans Many Common Concepts

Getty Images

What do dinosaurs, birthdays, and poverty have in common?

They?re just three examples from a list of common concepts and/or words barred from standardized testing in the New York City Department of Education. References to dinosaurs may prove offensive to those who do not accept evolution, while birthdays are excluded because Jehovah?s Witnesses do not celebrate them. Poverty gets the boot because words that imply wealth, or, well poverty, may cause some students to feel excluded.

Other excluded ideas include ?divorce? and ?disease?, sparing students who may have family going through those situations.

School officials say they are only trying to show sensitivity to a diverse school population. But some education commentators say the ban may do more harm than good. Core Knowledge Foundation spokesperson Robert Pondiscio notes that the ban on common ideas and words means that students no longer can draw on life experiences when taking tests.

Of course, no one wants to offend any individual or group, especially during the education process. But I?ve always thought one of the strengths of schools was that students were forced to interact with a variety of people, who may or may not believe the same things they did.

Is the new New York City policy over the top? Or should individual identity be respected, no matter what? Jump in with an opinion, here or on our Facebook page.

Ricoh Aficio SP C242SF

The Ricoh Aficio SP C242SF ($700 street) has a lot in common with the Ricoh Aficio SP C240SF ($400, 4 stars) that I recently reviewed. Both are aimed at small to medium size offices with relatively heavy duty print needs, and both offer a similar set of MFP features, from fax capability to automatic document feeders (ADFs). The two differ in speed and output quality, but arguably the most important difference is cost. The C242SF costs more to buy but less to run. Compare it to either the C240SF or to other printers, and the more you print, the more attractive it will be.

The C242SF is essentially the single function Ricoh Aficio SP C242DN ($450 street, 3.5 stars) with MFP features added. It uses the same toner cartridges and offers the same low claimed cost per page, at 2 cents for a monochrome page and 10.1 cents for a color page. In comparison, the Ricoh C240SF claims a running cost of an additional 1.2 cents for a mono page and an additional 9.6 cents for a color page. Even if you print only one color page for every 10 mono pages, that works out to a 10.8 cent difference for every 11 pages you print, or $108 for 11,000 pages. In short, you don't have to print all that much to make up the difference in the initial price. Run the numbers comparing the C242SF to most other color MFPs, including the Editors' Choice Dell 2155cn ($549.99 direct, 4 stars), and you'll come to pretty much the same conclusion, although the actual numbers will differ.

That's the good news. The bad news is that even though the C242SF generally rises to the level of being good enough in most areas, it's also a bit below par in many.

The Basics
In addition to printing, the C242SF can scan to and fax from your PC, including over a network, and it can work as a standalone copier and fax machine. It can also scan directly to a USB memory key and print directly from PictBridge cameras. Other key office-centric features include the 35-page ADF, which complements the letter-size flatbed for scanning multi-page documents and legal size pages.

The printer also offers ample paper handling for a small office or workgroup, with a 250-sheet tray, a duplexer (for printing on both sides of the page), and a one-sheet manual feed tray so you can feed individual sheets of a different paper stock. This should be enough for most small offices, but if you need more, you can also get a 500-sheet second tray ($149 list), for a total 750-sheet capacity.

One potentially annoying oversight that the C242SF shares with the C240SF is that the default installation doesn't install the driver for faxing from your PC's hard drive. As I pointed out in the Ricoh C240SF review, if you don't notice the separate option for the fax driver when you install the printer, and you don't know that PC faxing is supposed to be available, you could easily use the printer for its entire lifetime and never find out that you don't have to print documents before you can fax them.

Setup and Speed
The C242SF is big and heavy. It measures 18.7 by 16.5 by 19.4 inches (HWD), and weighs a substantial 66.2 pounds, which means moving it into place is best considered a two-person job. Setup is standard fare otherwise. For my tests, I connected it to a wired network and ran the tests from a Windows Vista system.

Ricoh Aficio SP C242SF

The printer turned out to be surprisingly slow for its 21 page per minute (ppm) rating for both mono and color. On our business applications suite, I clocked it (using QualityLogic's hardware and software for timing) at an effective 3.2 ppm. That's significantly slower than either the C240SF, at 6.3 ppm, or the Dell 2155cn, at 5.9 ppm. In fact, it's essentially tied with the much less expensive HP LaserJet Pro 100 Color MFP M175nw ($349.99 direct, 3 stars), at 3.3 ppm.

Output Quality
The printer's output quality is good enough for most purposes, but below par for a color laser MFP across the board. Text in particular is well below par. However, lasers set such a high bar for text quality that you shouldn't have any complaints unless you have an unusual need for small fonts, which in this case means smaller than 8 points for most fonts used in business documents.

Graphics output is just a touch below par, but still within the tight range where virtually all color laser MFPs fall. Most people would consider it good enough for any internal business use. However I'd hesitate to use it for, say, PowerPoint handouts if I wanted the output to convey a sense of professionalism. Photos are good enough for a client or company newsletter, as long as you're not too demanding.

Clearly, the C242SF's strengths are its ample paper handling, its full complement of office-centric features like the ADF and duplexer, and its low running cost. It doesn't earn many points for quality or speed, but both are good enough for most purposes. The combination adds up to a potentially money-saving workhorse. If you print enough pages to get the full benefit of the low cost per page, it can be a great fit.

Frontier Internet | Home Internet Providers

Frontier InternetFrontier Internet, or Frontier Communications Corporation, is a telephone company in the U.S. that has a reputation for providing services mostly to both rural as well as smaller neighborhoods. In the past decade or so, it has undergone two name changes, having been known first as the Citizens Utilities Company until May of 2000 and then as Citizens Communications Company until July of 2008.

The company has been around, in one shape or form, since as early as 1935, and it is a publicly traded corporation, using the ticker symbol of FTR. Its headquarters is located in the northeast, in Stamford, Connecticut, to be more precise, and it employs almost 15,000 workers as of 2010.

The coverage area of Frontier Internet is quite expansive, despite its size: It currently provides services to Americans in 27 different states, mainly in areas and neighborhoods that can be seen as smaller as well as more rural.

In fact, Frontier Internet is regarded as one of the U.S.?s biggest local and rural exchange carriers. Some of the services that it offers its customer base are long distance as well as local telephone service, broadband Internet, technical support for PC and digital television services to both businesses and residential customers.

Over the course of its corporate history, the Frontier Communications Company has had quite a few, significant acquisitions. Case in point: Back in 2001, the company, then still only known as Citizens Communications, bought the Frontier Corporation from Global Crossing for its local exchange properties.

Then, back in only May of 2009, Frontier Internet announced that it had purchased almost 5 million Verizon landlines that had been leased to both small business as well as residential customers. This meant that Frontier stood to get all of Verizon?s wireline assets across a lot of different states.

Frontier Internet thrives because it offers quite a few popular Internet packages that have its customers coming back and new customers showing interest in the company?s services.

For instance, one of its more popular packages has been the Frontier Fast High-Speed Internet package, which starts at just $32.99 a month and features 8 different e-mail accounts and Internet speeds reaching 10 Mbps.

BenQ W7000 Gaming Projector Review | The Art of Gaming: Video ...

Hi all!

I was able to sit down last week and test BenQ?s flagship projector, the W7000.? At ~$2500, it is a direct competitor to the Epson 5010.? I?m glad I was able to look at these two projectors soon enough after one another to make a proper comparison.? The W7000 projector throws a super bright and extremely sharp image and also includes features like 3D and frame interpolation.? Input lag has been a topic of concern with many of the newer projector models, read on to find out how this projector measures up in the game room!

If you didn?t already know, I do have a dedicated room for my setup.? This room also happens to be fairly small ~(11?x12?).?? My couch is flat against the opposite wall of my 100? screen and if you are facing the couch, my projector is rack mounted directly to the left, ~6ft off the ground.?? The Epson 5010 was able to match my 6500UB?s placement flexibility and did a top notch job filling my offset screen.? Many other projectors have a tougher time with this and require a bit more tweaking to accomplish this goal, if they are able to manage it at all.

If the Epson 5010 has ?great? placement flexibility, I would rate the BenQ W7000 at ?very good?.? It does include both vertical and horizontal lens shift, both the range and the zoom are not quite as expansive as the Epson 5010?s,but it still does a good job. ? From the same position that the Epson sat, it was a few inches short of reaching the far left side of my screen, and I was unable to make the image large enough to fill it completely.? I think another foot back would have done the trick.

I was really impressed by image quality of the Epson 5010, and I can say with confidence that I consider the W7000 to be a strong competitor.?? They are both great projectors, but there are some major differences between the two.

The BenQ W7000 is noticeably sharper than the Epson 5010. ? It is the sharpest projector I have reviewed so far and one of the sharpest projectors I have ever seen.? It made digital images really pop, which is great for games. ? The extra sharpness, however, can add a grainy look to movies.?? This is not something I necessarily consider to be bad, but it is definitely a matter of preference.? The graininess can be tamed a bit by adjusting sharpness settings.

The W7000 is impressively bright in it?s ?best? mode.? Fully calibrated, the W7000 was easily twice as bright as the Epson 5010.?? There is a tradeoff here though,? the Epson 5010 makes up for its dimmer image with deeper, darker blacks.? I?m a sucker for inky blacks, so my general image quality preference goes to the Epson.? However, the? W7000 had plenty of shadow detail and super bright image that boosted it?s ?wow? factor.

For some reason, enjoyed 3D gaming more on the W7000 than I did on the Epson 5010.? I would need them side by side to tell which was brighter in 3D mode, but I can tell you I thought the W7000 seemed to have a more accurate, cleaner 3D picture.? The Epson did well, but for 3D gaming I give the edge to the W7000.

The W7000?s CFI system also seemed to do a good job.? There were very minimal artifacts and I see it being used in slower paced games where input lag is not an issue.

The BenQ is a single-chip DLP projector, and in the past I have noticed rainbows in other single-chip DLP projectors like the GT750. I was not able to see them at all with the W7000.? I believe this to be a result of its faster color wheel.
Lastly, input lag!?? This time, I?m happy to report that the BenQ W7000 measures a respectable ~35ms. ? For video games at 60Hz refresh rate, this means you are about 2 frames behind. ?? I personally experienced no problems playing on this projector. ? I feel the W7000 throws an image that is fast enough to enjoy gaming, but I could see how it may not be fast enough for those folks who drink, eat and breathe first person shooters.?? Ideally, I?d like to see these numbers more in the < 20ms range, but given the measurements we?ve seen in the past couple reviews, I will gladly accept 35ms and do so with a smile!? :)

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

I was unable to test how input lag changed with CFI enabled or in 3D mode because the projector would not let me enable these features while connected to my laptop for some reason.?? As you can imagine, the numbers should only increase when you enable image processing features.?? 35ms is the best it gets.

?

All in all, I am quite impressed with the W7000. ? It?s not perfect, but it?s damn good.?? Of all the projectors I have reviewed so far, I?d say this has the best overall image quality of the ones that I can recommend for a gaming.? I kinda see the W7000 as a heavily tweaked GT750.? It doesn?t boast zero input lag, but for folks looking for a higher end projector that also works for gaming, I highly recommend the W7000.? Way to go BenQ!

Ind. Man Accused Of Stealing From Tornado Victims

WLKY.com

An Indiana man has been accused of stealing from tornado victims and pretending to be a government official.

Indiana State Police said Gerald Flint, 53, collected money and supplies intended for those affected by the March 2 tornado outbreak, but they have no idea where any of the donations went.

Police said Flint went to Clark and Scott counties to solicit donations on behalf of his organization, but they said what happened to those donations is anyone's guess.

"Anytime we have these disasters that come through, there are always people who try to come in and take advantage of the situation," said Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin.

Police said Flint went to southern Indiana communities hit by the tornadoes, asking for disaster supplies and monetary donations on behalf of the organization Volunteer Medics Worldwide. He drove a truck outfitted with his group's logo, and, according to police, told people he was working with the Department of Homeland Security.

But police said that wasn't true.

"He wasn't working with them. He wasn't affiliated with them. As a matter of fact, right now, we haven't found one legitimate organization that he was affiliated with," said Goodin.

Police said he collected an unknown amount of money and supplies, but they have no idea what happened to all of it.

"We can't account for it, and we're trying to find out the best we can where this stuff went to. And right now, we can't find it," said Goodin.

The organization Flint mentioned has an extensive website, which includes a message stating Volunteer Medics Worldwide never asks for money or seeks donations.

The website also said the group has "halted all action to assist anyone in the Henryville, Ind., area due to the actions of those who have taken money and used fraud tactics during this storm recovery period."

"It upsets me, but with human nature being the way it is, you can expect a few people to be like that," said Jack Myers, whose home was damaged by a tornado.

Myers said dozens of volunteers helped him clean up his Henryville home. He doesn't want one case to taint all of their efforts.

"Ninety-nine percent of the people have been very honest, very helpful," said Myers.

Police have a message for those who aren't.

"If you're not legitimate and you're doing wrong, you're going to end up like this guy," said Goodin.

Flint is listed as the contact on Volunteer Medics Worldwide's website, and a message left with him Thursday was not returned.

He has been arrested and was charged with theft, impersonating a public servant and possession of a legend drug, because police said he was also caught with antibiotics he didn't have a prescription for.

Indiana State Police are asking anyone who may have given money or supplies to Volunteer Medics Worldwide or to Flint to call them at 812-246-5424.

'Hunger Games' Strikes A 'Perfect Balance,' Experts Say

Three 'HG' webmasters break down film adaptation for MTV News.
By Kara Warner

Did you know that "The Hunger Games" is finally out in theaters? That's a rhetorical question — of course you did!

We've all been following the hugely anticipated film since the beginning, and now we can bask in the glow of its predicted success and the general delight of fans everywhere, not to mention the very positive reviews.

Now, MTV News turns to our most trusted "Hunger Games" experts to find out what they think about the adaptation:

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss
"If anyone had any lingering doubts about whether our Oscar-nominated leading lady could do the role of Katniss Everdeen justice, those doubts took an arrow to the heart. There were a lot of standout moments in her performance — her soon to be iconic 'I volunteer!,' her emotional breakdown after the loss of Rue — but for me, the highest mark of Jen's understanding of Katniss came at the end when (spoiler) she and fellow tribute Peeta are about to commit a double suicide on live TV. In that scene, everything we know about Katniss — her strength, her desire to protect the people she loves, her bravery and the first flicker of rebellion — show through. Unlike the lovelorn Peeta, who uses his final moments of life to appreciate the girl he loves, Katniss has eyes only for the Capitol, looking not at Peeta, but into one of the invisible cameras. This isn't about love, it's about survival, and Jen gets that." — Shylah Addante, Down With the Capitol

"Jennifer was fabulous! Every moment she was onscreen, which was a lot, was just phenomenal. She did a great job of showing how much Katniss cared about her family but was emotionally blank to everyone else." — Jessica McKenna, The Hob

"Jennifer as Katniss is beyond amazing. The depth in which she portrayed Katniss is unlike anything I've seen before. It was all about the subtle things Jennifer would do that made the biggest impact. Whether it was Jennifer visibly trembling right before the arena, getting this panicked look in her eyes when Prim's name is called at the Reaping, her grief at the death of Rue or her look of defiance when giving the three-fingered salute to the people of District 11, I found myself feeling how Katniss must be feeling and left utterly speechless at Jennifer's portrayal of this character. I've said it before, but I think it's definitely worth saying again: Although this fandom doesn't like to identify itself with teams, if I did have to pick, I would definitely be Team Katniss all the way." — Sheila Cordero, HG Girl on Fire

Josh Hutcherson as Peeta
"Insofar as Jen is Katniss, Josh Hutcherson is Peeta. I believed everything he did was motivated by his character's signature pure-of-heart naiveté. Josh ensured that Peeta wore his heart of his sleeve but was careful to ensure that he didn't cross into clichéd romance territory. Scenes like the rooftop and the cave, where he had to play soft to Katniss' hard edge, could have easily been awkward or out of pace with the rest of the film, but Josh gave Peeta a backbone that gave his character's romanticism a solid foundation." — Addante

"From the first time we see Josh onscreen, I was convinced I was looking at Peeta. He nailed Peeta's quiet strength and kindness." — McKenna

"Over the course of the last several months, I've become increasingly impressed with what I have seen of Josh Hutcherson and truly believe he does embody many of the characteristics of Peeta. Watching him bring this character to life, I can honestly say Josh is an outstanding actor. He brought me to tears as he fought back the tears while he was being driven away from District 12 and heading toward the Capitol train. During Peeta's interview with Caesar Flickerman, I found myself rooting for this charming guy who you couldn't help but smile back at, then internally going 'Awww' when he admits his crush is the girl he came to the Games with. But perhaps what I loved the most about Josh as Peeta was the silent communication he had with Katniss. Whether it was him rubbing medicine on Katniss' cut, putting a hand on her cheek or a simple touch of her braid, I couldn't help but find myself falling for the boy with the bread." — Cordero

The Supporting Players
"Wes Bentley's portrayal of Head Gamemaker Seneca Crane gave incredible context to the Games and their entertainment value in Panem. He, by far, had my favorite scene in the film when his character realizes that he's gone from young hotshot TV producer to a dead man — proof positive that it's not just the tributes playing for their lives in Panem." — Addante

"Stanley Tucci was a scene-stealer as Caesar. He expertly jumped from a sympathetic, hard-hitting, Barbara Walters-esque interviewer to an über-hyper, Richard Dawson-ish game-show host and back again second by second." — McKenna

"For me, the biggest and most pleasant surprise of all was Willow Shields as Prim. Her scenes with Katniss at home and during the reaping just break my heart. She displayed a depth to her character that is rare in an actor as young as she is. I really felt her fear when her name was called and then her agony as she is carried away by Gale once Katniss volunteers. Willow amazed me." — Cordero

Page-to-Screen Adaptation
"One-hundred percent, this is the best page-to-screen adaption of a film I've seen. It gave the perfect balance of what longtime fans of the series would be excited for, but knew where to trim things down to make the movie work. The best example of this is the infamous cave scene, which, in the book, stretches on for page after glorious page of Katniss and Peeta kissing, enjoying sponsor gifts, and seducing the nation into believing their love story. In the movie, however, we get one kiss and a couple very intense moments of connection from the star-crossed lovers, and that's all we needed. Had Gary Ross pulled an 'Eclipse' and stretched out every lingering glance and hung onto each word of dialogue, I have no doubt that it would have felt out of place and cheesy in a movie that, otherwise, is very pragmatic and real." — Addante

"The overall adaptation worked really well. Like many fans, I wasn't thrilled with some of the finer points that were left out of the screenplay. However, it all worked in the end and didn't really miss anything that was cut. Plus, the scenes they created for the movie with President Snow and the Gamemakers really helped round out the story and provide additional insights to viewers." — McKenna

"I think that Gary Ross and [author] Suzanne Collins did a wonderful job of adapting this book into a movie. Their use of Caesar Flickerman and Claudius Templesmith as announcers and commentators about the games was brilliant and a really smart, creative way to bring some of the backstory and terminology into the movie. I loved the added scenes between President Snow and Seneca Crane because it helped to lay the foundation of how Katniss ultimately becomes the symbol that sparks the rebellion and will help people who haven't read the books understand that there is more to this story than just a young girl's survival in the Games. I also enjoyed some of the changes they made to Peeta's portrayal in the movie. I loved that Peeta was not portrayed as helpless in the final battle with Cato. It really showed him to be more of Katniss' equal and not someone she is continually trying to save." — Cordero

Panasonic Eluga available from March 29 in Japan, Europe in April

Android Central

Panasonic showed off its first Android smartphone for the western world, the Eluga, back at MWC in Barcelona. Fast forward a few weeks and release information for the mid-range device is starting to appear.

The 4.3-inch, dust and water-resistant phone will first be available in Japan on NTT Docomo starting on March 29. A European launch for the Eluga will then follow on in April.

Sadly both versions will be launching on Gingerbread. Like other OEM's, though, Panasonic has already detailed an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Eluga. We're expecting to see it in the summer, though which part of it is still unknown at this time.

Q&A: As a diabetic . . . is everything a no-no ? | Health and Fitness ...

Question by janaji63: As a diabetic . . . is everything a no-no ?
I?m a diabetic in very sad shape. I?m going downhill I know it. I have very poor eating habits & barely any self control. I am disabled due to a back injury. I am over weight by at least 100 lbs. I have cardiac artery disease & am awaiting a triple bypass surgery. The doctors want me to lose another 50 lbs before they do the surgery so my survival rate will be better when they have to put me on the heart lung machine for surgery. I have high blood pressure, low thyroid, asthmatic, quit smoking 7 months ago, on oxygen 24 hours a day at home & cannot exercise. My oxygen saturation drops just getting up to walk to the next room. One of the side effects of my asthma medication is weight gain. One of the side effects of my diabetic medication is weight gain. My low thyroid makes me battle with weight gain. I am not able to get up & prepare healthy meals for myself on a daily basis. I can only stand for about 5 minutes at a time. Like I said, I am in bad shape. I was drinking Coke Zero but my parents had a fit because Coke Zero is sweetened with aspartame & is known to cause brain cancer in lab rats. So I went back to regular coke. I thought I would try some Gatorade. Now I find out that stuff is no better for me than the colas. So I am SUPER discouraged. What the devil can diabetics drink besides water ??? I can?t cook or eat 3 square meals a day so I have a lot of frozen foods which is also bad. Seems everything I touch is bad & I?m about to give up entirely. What can I eat & drink ?
I have already had 2 heart attacks. I am under strict instructions NOT to exercise, yet they want me to lose weight. I can?t walk into the next room without having my oxygen drop & be near another attack, sometimes having to use a nitro. I?m not wining because I?m in this shape. I?m wining because everything I try to do to get out of this shape is the wrong thing or not good for me or it?s something I can?t do. I have not been on insulin since being diagnosed except when I go into the hospital. But I am fixing to have to ask my doctor to put me on it & then fight to try to get help to pay for it because I have no insurance & get my medical care from the state. This is what poverty is like. I can?t afford the type of foods from the grocery that I should be eating because low sugar foods are twice as expensive. I can barely afford the bad stuff. I am quite discouraged.

Answer by Gary B
Understand that your parents are very scientifically misinformed. Aspartame DOES cause cancer in lab rats. BUT for it to affect YOU, your would have to eat like 40 pounds of Aspartame EVERY DAY.

A Coke Zero or Diet Coke a day, even three or four, is NOT going to harm you. What IS going to harm you is all that sugar in regular Coke, Gatorade, ALL ?power Drinks?, and things like that.

you MUST cut out ALL SUGARS in your diet. and it IS OK to substitute aspartame and Splenda (and ANY artificial sweetener) to ge the sweet taste.

You must ALSO reduce your Carbohydrate intake. Get a Diabetic Cookbook, and USE IT. It is extremely important that you know the sources of carbohydrates, AND know just how many ?carbs? you can have at each meal.

You have multiple problems causing weight gain. Therefore you MUST reduce yo r caloric intake. ?Normal? people requires about 2000 calories a day. But due to your medication your only have two choices:
Cut your calories down to 1600 a day
2) Get LOTS more exercise.

The more exercise you get, the more you can eat! Walk, swim, ride a bike. Play volleyball or jog if you are able.

YOU are the answer to your problems. You need to stop whining about what you CAN?T do, and start doing everything you CAN do.

Control of diabetes is ALL up to you. YOU will determine whether or not you live or die. LITERALLY. if you continue to make bad choices in your lifestyle (eating a poor diet, failing to get exercise, not taking your medicines properly) then you will die young and in a great deal of pain, You will probably also be limited to a nursing home at a young age, unable to function outside because of amputations, heart attacks , or strokes.

But if you develop the self-discipline to take control of your life, exercise, diet, and medicine RIGHT NOW, then you can live as long as anyone else, and participate in school sports, music, a career, and even get married and have children of your own.

EDUCATE YOURSELF! Your parents are a POOR source of information. Ask your doctor to refer you to a Diabetic Educator who can teach you the CORRECT things to eat, and stop listening to your parents. concerning your diet.

What do you think? Answer below!
